THE DISTRICTS VIOLET

The Districts have shared a brilliant new single in the shape of 'Violet'. Taken from their much anticipated second album-proper, Popular Manipulations - out 11 August via the iconic Fat Possum Records - it is a bombastic, relentlessly driving affair that continues to highlight the Philadelphia band's development into one of the most empowering and intelligent makers of indie rock n' roll on the planet. Of the track, front man Rob Grote explains, "Lyrically, ‘Violet,’ deals with ideas of possessiveness, intimacy, sex, dependency, and how they're used manipulatively. Kind of a look at how these things can be beautiful but are also used as devices, usually unconsciously which is the somewhat terrifying part." Beautiful and terrifyingly good, The Districts continue to set the pace in the lead-up to album two. -G.O'B
